D'Arcy Bellamy
Spiral to the Third Power - Large Steel Sculpture for Outdoors and Indoors

2022

About the Item

Focusing on making human-scale, abstract, minimalist, and often kinetic sculptures, D'Arcy Bellamy creates art exclusively from steel pipe. Bellamy’s work is characterized by flowing lines, strong negative space, originality, movement, and shadows. The work has a rough, unrefined, spontaneous, and playful nature, often resulting in a smile from the viewer. This large metal, figurative sculpture measures 97 inches high by 18 inches wide and 17 inches deep. Bellamy used powder-coated steel as the medium for this artwork. The artist's signature is cut into the sculpture's base. This sculpture can be displayed easily on any flat surface, both indoors and outdoors. If outdoors, artwork may develop a natural patina over time. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Bellamy is a self-taught artist. After growing up along the US East Coast, going to college in the Midwest, and spending 2 years in the Caribbean, Bellamy earned an MBA and has had a successful career in sales and design. Bellamy began to explore art in 2002 at The Creative Arts Center in Dallas where he quickly found his medium of steel pipe as a metal worker. Since then, Bellamy has spent evenings and weekends making sculptures from steel pipe. Over the last 20 years, Bellamy has lived in Colorado, Dallas, and Boise, ID. Bellamy continues to develop his expertise as a sculptor by making new and innovative creations and exhibiting that work. With his unique process of subtractive fabrication, Bellamy has created a large body of original, engaging work that is varied yet consistent, becoming more refined over time. Bellamy says the following about his process: "Most metal sculptors work in an additive process or one that involves casting. In a process I call subtractive fabrication, I work more like a stone carver, removing material and adding mostly space and line. I enjoy releasing the energy that is stored in each length of pipe." Bellamy’s original sculptures are exhibited in galleries in Boise, ID, and at Artplex Gallery Los Angeles, CA. His works have also been exhibited in galleries in Dallas, Aspen, and Boise and have been collected throughout the USA. • Sujoon - Haint Blues - Large Sculputural Original Three-Dimensional Wall Art
    By Atticus Adams
    Located in Los Angeles, CA
Atticus Adams' organically composed modern metal sculptures embody the transformative power of contemporary wall art, illustrating the creation of beauty, meaning, and emotional impact from industrial materials. Using mostly aluminum mesh—generally found in screen doors, windows, and filters—he creates contemporary abstract sculptural artworks and installations, which resemble flowers, clouds, and other natural phenomena. Working in metal, Adams effortlessly transforms rigid material into airy, effervescent artworks. This circular 60-inch high by 60-inch wide and 4-inch deep metal sculpture is a lightweight form created from aluminum mesh, gesso, acrylic paint, and wire. It has metal rings affixed on the back which allows for easy installation. Atticus works spontaneously, feeling his way toward the objects that take shape in his mind as he shapes them almost entirely by hand. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Atticus grew up in West Virginia, steeped in traditional folk art. Several members of his family are self-taught artists, deeply involved in such crafts as wood carving and quilting. His formal art training includes stints at Yale, Rhode Island School of Design, and Harvard’s School of Architecture. Atticus has fond summer memories of screened-in porches back home and screen doors that practically dissolved the barrier between inside and outside, allowing the warmth and nature to permeate each day. This association continues to resonate in his art. “Metal mesh is a beautiful, flexible material that allows you to explore shadow and transparency in endless ways,” he says. “The material lends itself to these biomorphic shapes, which aren’t necessarily intentional . . . The sculptures seem fragile but are actually quite resilient—like nature itself.” A well-known sculptor, the organically inspired artworks of Atticus Adams are held in public and private collections and are exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States.
