Visions Through Time

2017

About the Item

Visions Through Time is somewhat of a visual anomaly. Eastern Traditionalist ceramic form and practice of underglaze paint is fused with very Western abstract motifs that evoke Chagal and Picasso. The bold colors and gestural brushstrokes are also a very contemporary and Western aesthetic, which is certainly not common with Chinese white porcelain artworks. This dynamic 360-degree composition is engaging from any angle/ viewpoint with playful figures emerging from abstracted landscapes. Psychological underpinnings seem to be embedded within this scene of mythical type beings engaged in the whirling and whimsical settings around them.
