Jill Parisi
Earth and Sky Star, Colorful Botanical Paper Wall Sculpture, Light Orange Maroon

2021

About the Item

In this bright and colorful paper sculpture, a fantastical botanical form in light orange with dark burgundy, magenta and light brown in the center is composed of hand-colored digital prints on hand-cut, pigmented, handmade Loktah paper pinned with black enameled brass tipped steel entomology pins to a fabric covered ethafoam, dibond and wood strainer. Framed in a polished, UV protected acrylic shadowbox. 10 x 10 x 3 inches (unframed), 10.5 x 10.5 x 3.5 inches (framed in acrylic shadowbox). Signed and dated on verso. The study of botanical and zoological forms, and the outdoor environment provide starting points for the fantastic ecosystems that Parisi creates. These highly detailed works ask the viewer to consider the subtle beauty of nature in our fast paced culture, and the impact of humans on our natural surroundings. Artist Jill Parisi hails from New York State’s Catskill Mountain/Mid-Hudson Valley region. An avid hiker and traveler, the artist is an Associate Professor of Printmaking at the State University of New York at New Paltz and currently lives and works in Washington DC. Significant achievements and awards granted to the artist include a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Artists’ Books in 2005, a Studio Immersion Project Fellowship at Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in 2010, completion of a public art commission for New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Arts for Transit program in 2012, and the selection of her installation Kaleidoscope Garden for both the Main Exhibition of the Krakow Printmaking Triennial in 2012, and the International Print Network’s Graphically Extended exhibition in Oldenburg, 2013. Parisi’s work was also selected for the 2015 Krakow Printmaking Triennial’s Main Exhibition.
