About the Item
"Flight Lines" John McQueen, painted strips of wood, 76” x 46” x 9”, 2019.
This abstract bentwood sculpture was created by American fiber artist, John McQueen (b. 1943). McQueen explains that, “[the] black lines refer to the currents the birds leave as they disturb the air...Bent black strips bear the brunt of reality. Splashes of white paint flash heedless of obligation. Their immediacy resembles birds in flight blurring by with no loyalty to gravity. The goal is a correlation between movement and stasis."
McQueen has been a recipient of the Master of the Medium award, James Renwick Alliance, Smithsonian Institution and the Established Artist Award, Arts Center of the Capitol Region, New York.
