Roperoot 1: Green and Brown, Original Post Minimalist Sculpture

2022

About the Item

Roperoot 1: Green and Brown 48.0 x 48.0 x 3.0, 4.0 lbs Jute Hand signed by artist Artist's Commentary: "The process of making rope is simple: separate the fibers into two halves, twist one half away from you, then wrap it towards you, then repeat with the other half. If you allow the rope to split, and split, and split again, the rope begins to branch like something growing. Soon a network of branches hangs from the wall, twisting, drooping, extending in all directions. No two installations of the artwork can ever be the same as the hundreds of fibers are free to move in their own way. The branches have grown outwards like an organic thing, and now they take on a life of their own." About the Artist: "Justin Kedl is an artist and scholar living in Beverly, Massachusetts. His artwork in diverse materials creates a universe teeming with bizarre forms of life. The strangeness of his work manifests both surreality and curiosity for the viewers who encounter it. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in sculpture and design from Gordon College and well as a Master of Arts in Modern and Contemporary art history, theory, and criticism from Azusa Pacific University. His study of twentieth-century modernism—particularly Surrealism, the Bauhaus school, and Abstract Expressionism—informs both his scholarship and the creation of his own artwork."

  • Nike's Advice XVII
    Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: This work was started several years ago during a public art performance called Nike's Advice. I painted 130 feet of unprimed canvas with the public. It was scary! I don't consider myself a painter. I was having to accept Nike's Advice myself ... as in "Just Do It". Later I used my sewing machine to free-motion stitch around the paint, adding detail. Finally, the work was mounted on a stretcher bar with blue painted edges before being coated with UV filtering epoxy. Keywords: Mixed media, abstract, textile, paint Artist Biography: Susan Lenz...
