Nancy Baker, Magic Carpet, 2017, acrylic paint, paper
Located in Darien, CT
In Baker’s work, there is solace in the geometry of fundamentals, and a practice that focuses on the ephemeral nature of paper and the ease of its transportability, which allows her to create large-scale constructions. A desire for definitive certainties and incontrovertible truths in an era of “alternative facts”, precipitate the need for Baker to assert her clarification of evidence. Cross Section from The Box
Located in Philadelphia, PA
"Cross Section from The Box" is an original large paper sculpture by street artist A Common Name (Paige Smith), which was part of her overall installation originally seen on display at The Standard, Hollywood. This piece measures 18in height x 24in width x 4in depth, and ships in the pictured wooden box frame (as pictured). All of the geodes were handmade out of paper by the artist, then painted. Please note: The final three photos are present to show the piece in situ. This purchase does not include any of the additional items such as furniture shown in the last three images. Paige Smith AKA A Common Name, is a multi-disciplinary artist and designer who lives and works in Los Angeles, CA. Smith is most notable for creating “Urban Geode,” a street art series of sculptures that resemble geodes, made entirely of paper and resin casts. Always interested in geology, Smith started to notice the nooks and crannies in the sides of buildings, walls, and abandoned phone booths within her community of the Historical Arts District (in Los Angeles). Seeing this as an opportunity to create, Smith took street-art to a whole new level. Since beginning the project, she has created large-scale installations for well-known brands such as The Standard, Hollywood; The Viper Room...
