Traces VI by Oliver Ashworth-Martin - Concrete sculpture, abstract

2018

About the Item

Traces VI is a unique concrete sculpture by contemporary English sculptor Oliver Ashworth-Martin, dimensions are 32 × 13 × 13 cm (12.6 × 5.1 × 5.1 in). This artwork is signed by the artist and comes with a certificate of authenticity. Oliver Ashworth-Martin explores hidden aspects of nature and the plant kingdom in his drawings. To accomplish this exploration, pastel and charcoal are used. The drawings of the modern artist enlarge the plant parts while painstakingly reproducing their motifs, clearly considering botanical veracity. Oliver Ashworth-Martin often includes natural elements in his drawings and sculptures, taking inspiration from the diversity and vastness of Australian vegetation. Mathematical harmony of patterns and richness of shapes and textures are revealed by him through abstraction, magnification, or contrast with inorganic materials (like metal). His explanations provide viewers with a fresh perspective on their surroundings.

Biomorphic yet industrial style to Dena Paige Fischer's sculptural votive candle holder. The stacked cubes are painted and smooth, piled upon one another into a column, or as the artist calls it, a totem. The pastel pigmented concrete in peach and lavender looks almost soft.
