About the Item
Sarah Alexander's steel wall sculpture "Where am I Going, I Don't Quite Know" measures 72 x 40 x 9 inches. Flowing grassy forms seem to fly across the wall as it casts softly flowing shadows, Made from hand hammered steel, each piece is drawn on with an engraving tool, or has been kissed by a torch for a blue patina. The sculpture has a clear protective coating that preserves the natural colors of the steel for an industrial look. This piece is from Alexander's exhibit Anywhere, Anywhere, I don't Know , and symbolize freedom and self empowerment. The wing like grasses make a powerful statement. The piece is engraved with the artists signature.
Alexander likes to approach the same subject using differing materials to see how it transforms the narrative of the subject. A grassy seed ball drawn with pen and ink or painted in watercolor, feels very different when “drawn” with steel. Alexander is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
