About the Item
Florilegia: for Friends Yet to Come features a unique hologram with vintage glazing.
C Alex Clark is known for their unique holographic pieces that merge image and material through the embedding of holograms into glass. These sculptures respond to light in the same way that an analog photograph might, forever changing in response to the environment that they're surrounded by.
Moving through varied mediums and crafts including holography, digital image making, sculpture, weaving, video, installation, and performance, C Alex Clark's practice seeks to confront, challenge, and enhance modes of perception. A destabilization of strongly held perceptual beliefs can change the simplex modes of thought which are handed to us, allowing for a complex—or further, multiplex—constellation of new thought to arise. These new thought patterns can subsequently be superposed onto concepts outside of art, such as gender, economics, and other cultural and socio-political constructions which are often taken for granted.

- "Bowl (CH2)", Contemporary, Porcelain, Bowl, Glaze, Glass Detail, Mixed MediaBy Bonnie SeemanLocated in St. Louis, MOBonnie Seeman grew up in Miami, Florida with a propensity towards anatomy illustration and the dazzling colors and rich foliage of the Miami landscape. Developing her technique with porcelain and glass, Seeman channeled her inspirations; resulting in vessels that are both beautiful and macabre. Combinations of muscular and skeletal anatomy and plant forms are the makeup of these sculptural utilitarian vessels. Instead of dwelling on dying, Seeman’s palpable forms culminate in an acute awareness and awe toward life, renewal, nature, and vitality. Shortly after completing her master’s degree in Fine Arts, Seeman was recognized by Galeria OMR in Mexico City, a gallery known for its cutting-edge artists. In effect, Seeman’s porcelain was taken out of the craft context and placed in exhibitions such as ARCO in Madrid, FIAC in Paris, and Art Basel. She shows extensively throughout the United States and was recipient of the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation 2005 Biennial Competition Award. - Abyssal ShrinesBy Sarah Louise DaveyLocated in Philadelphia, PAThis is an original, unique ceramic sculpture by Sarah Louise Davey on a black wooden base. The piece measures 44” x 19” x 21”. Please note: This piece is pictured with the base on top of a black pedestal and a white pedestal. The black base of the sculpture is included, but the pedestals are not included. Artist Statement: "The art of making, for me, is very much a response to the human condition of needing to connect to one another, as well as to what lies just beyond the borders of our realities. I am drawn to the idea that art can have the ability to affect those who look upon it, allowing these portraits to be conduits to a realm within our subconscious. Although my females are hard ceramic sculptures, their hollow, eggshell-like interiors feel like a glove or a mask that can easily be slipped on and off, like the psychic armor of a distant self. An introspective dialogue is started as I make each piece, invoking a surreal understanding of the physical and emotional auras of these strange beauties. Heavy in symbolism, they illustrate the psychological scope of a hybrid creature. Their wide-eyed gazes are meant to portray an emotional duality that is constantly evolving. Some are alter egos of women on the verge...Category
