Carol Bishop’s Architecture Reliefs capture the “bones and moves” of major Modernist structures. Case Study House based on the significant building by Koening in Los Angeles, shows the building’s movement as a poetic dance and reveals its Élan vital. The saturated color palette revisits both the strength of structure and its primary character. By extension into space, the form suggests the ability for inanimate objects to come to life. Carol Bishop, a Los Angeles resident artwork explores places and structures around the world to document how human affect and remember locations. Her work has been shown internationally. She is the first living American woman to have a solo show in the Carousel de Louvre in Paris. Carol Bishop’s practice focuses on agendas of architecture and place, the cultures that make structures, as well as the socio-economic environments that are imbedded in the layers of buildings. Her work has been widely exhibited in America and Europe including solo shows in the Carousel de Louvre, Huntington Museum, Bismarck Foundation, Taliesin East and West. Balcony Press publishes her book, Frank Lloyd Wright: The Romantic Spirit by Carol Bishop. Ms. Bishop is a well-known speaker on art and architecture. In paintings, photos and designs, she explores the color and light of structures to document and retain the experiences we both think about and feel in spaces. She says, “I search out motifs that inspire me to create dialectics about the meanings particular places communicate. After visiting particular places, I recreate the forms and sense memories that are embedded in sites.
