Andres Barsuto
Victoria - Glass Mosaic Skull Sculpture

2011

About the Item

Mexican artist Andres Barsuto utilizes glass shards from beer and wine bottles to create his unique mosaic sculptures. Following a specific work process, pieces of broken beer bottles are assembled using an epoxy resin to form mosaic works depicting skulls. His mosaic skulls are considered by many to be a beautiful metaphor for the fragility of human life. The artist calls his creations “specific shapes that evoke the human skull and skeleton as a container of the soul.” The artist is influenced by Spanish Baroque architecture and Mexican art and culture, including skulls made from mosaics depicting Tezcatilpoca (a deity in the Aztec religion) from the 15th century. glass sculpture, contemporary glass, glass skull, mosaic, mosaic sculpture, contemporary sculpture, contemporary glass, recycled art, skull sculpture, mexican art, assemblage
