About

These wooden chairs – sculptures resemble delicate and elegant human figures, one is a “She” and the other a “He.” Gerenstein used sinuous curves and natural forms to establish spatial constructs and interactions that move beyond the humanly-defined shape into that of furniture design. “She” has a beautiful skirt with an elaborate color design; is delicate and feminine. “He” looks strong, bold, and thick. In Beatriz Gerenstein description, the chairs are interactive. Like in a game, they could be positioned closer or even temporarily apart, reflecting the highs and lows of any human relation. Gerenstein took care of any detail in the design to emphasize her message of love and harmony. She avoided any sharp edge and designed the chairs with a contour in their top to insinuate that the chairs are leaning one towards the other like in a loving hug. Beatriz Gerenstein made these chairs - sculptures in Italy using exotic woods, state of the art technology and expert handmade craftsmanship Gerenstein provides us with a creative version of chairs that are at the same time a comfortable piece of furniture and a work of art. A person can sit on these chairs like in any other piece of furniture. As chairs, they are very comfortable and could be placed and enjoyed in a special place in a home. As a sculpture, they will bring the owners an everyday reminder of what is really important in our life. These Chairs in Love were exhibited in the 15 Venice Architecture Biennale at the palazzo Mora, Venice Italy, from May to November 2016. Beatriz Gerenstein is a contemporary artist whose body of work explores the daily pleasures, anxieties, and mysteries of the human being. In such a world we live in, full of wars and self-regard, violence, grid and political cynicism, Beatriz Gerenstein chose to talk about the human condition, love, friendship, anguish, pleasure, joy, pain, and spirituality, the desire to exist and to love. Gerenstein exhibits widely throughout the world. She showed her work in Venice, Italy during the 56th and 57th Venice Biennale (2015 and 2017). Also participated in the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale (2016) as well as in the IX Florence and 12th Havana Biennials (La Bienal de la Habana, 2015). Prominent art fairs have hosted shows of Beatriz Gerenstein sculptures, like Shanghai Contemporary, Shanghai Art Fair, Art Revolution Taipei, Art Shanghai, Top Galleries in Seoul, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Art Exhibition in Hong Kong. Beatriz Gerenstein was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She lives and works in Miami, USA.
