About the Item
After receiving her BFA from the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, Carol Cook earned a Master of Occupational Therapy degree from Texas Woman’s University in Denton. In 2000, Cook earned her MFA in Ceramics from the University of Dallas. About her exhibition, "The Waiting Room," shown at Valley House Gallery in 2015, Carol Cook states:
"Since childhood, I have been making clay figures to express what interested me. This group of small, fired-clay figures is an outgrowth of many years of three-dimensional shorthand. When I make a figure I try to feel what my subjects feel from the inside out. I choose the motif of people in their furniture because people’s lives are played out and influenced by the chairs they occupy. These sculptures are part of my ongoing response to a special, sometimes forgotten, segment of our population and the inspirational encounters I have had with them."
