About the Item
An exact, cast alabaster likeness of one of the components of Albrecht Dürer's 1493 drawing, "Six Studies of Pillows," a drawing which exists on the back of a self-portrait of the artist at 22. This sculptural rendition of the drawing allows the viewer to experience the ways that light flits and falls across impossibly creased alabaster stone up-close-and-personal, and is consistent with Debra Baxter's outstanding ouvre. The artist's works usually deal in matters of gender, material, and impossibility, which the Soft Landing (or crashing and burning) suite of sculptures perfectly represents.
