About the Item

A Rare Italian White Marble Relief of "Young Saint John the Baptist" circa 1860 after Desiderio Da Settignano. The original pietra serena relief by Desiderio Da Settignano, is in The Bargello Museum in Florence. Similar examples could be seen in the most prominent museums of the world including: The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Victoria and Albert Museum, The LACMA, The Palazzo Strozzi, and The Polo Museale Fiorentino. This exceptional Young Saint John the Baptist, is carved from a single slab of the finest Italian white marble, by a master sculptor as seen from the quality of the carving. It is housed in the original oak wood frame of gothic design. Image #5 shows the original by Desiderio Da Settignano in the Bargello. In very good condition overall and ready to hang. Normal wear consistent with age and use. No repairs, or restorations. In pristine condition. 34" high x 7" wide x 3" deep.
