About the Item

Giuseppe Bergomi was born in Brescia in 1953. After attending the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, he held his first solo exhibition as a painter in his hometown in 1978. Three years later, he began sculpting. He exhibited his sculptures for the first time at the Galleria dell'incisione in Brescia in 1982. From that moment on, he established relationships with some of the most important Italian and foreign galleries and gained the approval of the most prestigious critics. In 1992, Jean Clair invited him to participate in the prize established by the International Center for Contemporary Art, Château Beychevelle. Here, the sculptor created a large terracotta sculpture depicting the allegory of Justice, with which he won the Grand Prix Château Beychevelle in 1993. In 1996, he was invited to the 12th Rome Art Quadrennial, and on this occasion, the Chamber of Deputies acquired one of his works. The following year, he was awarded the "Chamber of Deputies Prize," and a solo exhibition was inaugurated at Palazzo Montecitorio. In the same year, the Principality of Monaco acquired two of his large bronze sculptures, which were exhibited at the 6th Monte Carlo Sculpture Biennale. In 2000, he created a monumental bronze sculpture titled "Men, Dolphins, and Parallelepipeds" for the entrance of the Nagoya Aquarium in Japan. In the summer of 2005, the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome hosted a major exhibition of the artist's work with sixty polychrome bronze sculptures, curated by Italian Factory. The same exhibition was inaugurated at Palazzo Martinengo in Brescia in February 2006. Numerous exhibitions have followed since 1978, including the 2007 exhibition at the Art Museum in Shanghai titled "Italiana" and the 2011 participation in the 54th Venice Biennale at the Arsenale and the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto. In 2012, the city of Pietrasanta hosted a major exhibition of 70 works in the Church of Sant'Agostino and in the Piazza del Duomo, curated by Lea Mattarella and Claudio Strinati. Giuseppe Bergomi lives and works in Ome, in the province of Brescia.

  • Nothing will work unless you do (Louvre, Abu Dhabi)
    Located in Milano, MI
In between picture and painting, Nicolò Quirico's works are photographic prints on a collage of vintage book pages.
Photographs are not printed on white paper as usual but on sheets of old books, so that fragments of sentences, sequences of short stories and opening words of novels overlap with architectural elements by creating not random references – though sometimes cryptic or mysterious – because the books were chosen by the author so to create a harmony with the subjects portrayed. This work compares the antiquity of a Greek statue with the new structure of the Louvre in Abu Dhabi
