About the Item

Natasha Dikareva's "Solace," a 6 x 9 x 4 inch contemporary sculpture from The Cloud Dwellers series, depicts two folded delicate, porcelain hands coming out of a purple majestic cloud made out of glass. The cloud is an elusive, mysterious element, always shifting, disappearing and reappearing in different forms. Out of the cloud, the hand of divinity might bestow testaments and commandments, or hide mischievous celestial foxes. Clouds are also a stimulus for imagination, inviting us to find familiar shapes and recognize figures in the drifting puffs. Glass is the perfect material to capture the essence of translucent, ephemeral shapes evoking water and clouds. Dikareva's exquisite combination of glass and and clay sculpture caresses the line between reality and imagination, bringing to life exquisite, surreal, impossible creatures. After everything was quiet for 12 rainy days, the universe wanted to know what it would feel like to touch itself. It dreamed of majestic hands, so soft they could cradle clouds. And so, it pushed and stretched, but it could not find a way, for it was everything and nothing at the same time. So instead of trying anymore, it stopped, and breathed, and waited. It practiced its patience for so long that soon it was no longer practicing. Everything and nothing, sometimes and always. And at that moment, the sky opened up to smile. Born and raised in Kiev, Ukraine, Natasha Dikareva now lives in Newmarket, New Hampshire. Her ceramic sculptures explore interconnections between biological systems, mythology and contemporary technology. Drawing on her Eastern European background, her work bridges cultural and linguistic barriers, speaking to the common experience of life. She received her BFA in graphics and drawing from the Kiev State Academy of Art and Design, and her MFA in ceramics and sculpture from the University of Minnesota. She won the Grand Prize at the American Museum of Ceramic Art. Her work is featured in various publications, including 500 Prints on Clay and New Ceramics European magazine, and is held in public and private collections. She exhibits locally and internationally. Dikareva is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
