About the Item

"TERAPHIM" Salvador Aulestia's Teraphim exhibition and simultaneous video presentation of the Teraphim exhibition held in front of Leonardo da Vinci's "Last Supper" on Corso Magenta in Milan in 1975. The origin of the Teraphim is very ancient and the name should be traced back to Jewish tradition. The aesthetic aspect of the Teraphim is important because, as Edward Bulwer Lytton says, ignorance shuns light, but it is a beauty responds to the aesthetic standards of the time and civilizations that made them. Teraphim were figurines that, animated by their dwellers, drawn to them by their shape and the materials that made them up, answered questions either by emitting a voice, tilting on their base plinths, or spinning dizzily around their own axis. In the Teraphim, there is no worship or adoration; it is an object that obeys a technique that we can call kabbalistic, hermetic, energetic or metaphysical. It is not a matter of faith or devotion. A Teraphim is in this case a perfect, apotelesmatic work: an earthly manifestation of transcendent archetypes and serving as a "dwelling place" for higher powers. Several aspects are distinguished in Teraphim: a - a material medium for creating its form, preferably clay. b - an aesthetic canon relating to an era, school or system. c - an energetic, magical and vital agent called a dweller incorporated in the Teraphim d - an act of consecration, performed at the appropriate time. Consecration that does not pay attention to any dogma being part of an art and technique. Salvador Aulestia made his Teraphim following all the indications necessary for their functionality, yet actualizing them from an aesthetic and artistic point of view according to his own era and style. All of Salvador Aulestia's sculptures, including the imposing "Sideroploide" a 65-meter-long by 17-meter-high iron sculpture found in the port of Barcelona, are Teraphim, although not always "activated" for that purpose.
