About the Item

Stephen Graham Drippin Paint 12" x 20.5" Swarovski crystals on push pins 2017 South African-born Stephen Graham has been working as an Artist and a Designer in the Art and Creative industries since 2003 after graduating from the prestigious and world-renowned Central Saint Martens in London. Stephen’s passion and focus lies in his art, but since establishing his art practice shortly after graduating he has made his mark in several disciplines and sectors both internationally in London where he started out, and locally in South Africa where he now resides. Over the course of almost 2 decades Stephen has developed a unique vision in the field of creative direction, now having extensive experience in décor, fashion and lifestyle, implementing what he refers to as ‘experiential design’. With his notable eye for creating dynamic and inspirational set designs for magazine covers, editorials, theatre, television, film and events, his imaginative and novel approach to creative design has translated itself into works that have featured on the covers of international magazines, in various fashion and lifestyle spreads and viewed on television shows. Stephen Graham Contemporary Art Stephen Graham Sculpture Stephen Graham Swarovski Push pins Swarovski crystals Paintbrush 3D Texture Silver THE ART OF THE PIN Negative space is something created by emptiness. It is the something defined by nothing. People see space, I as an artist see a canvas for creativity. My medium? Pin artwork, where light, shadow and form combine. In a world where the third dimension is a plane for experimentation, my art form has evolved and developed into an innovative “pin” technique translating my ideas into artworks. This unique medium derives inspiration from pop art / op art movements and every-day items that people can relate to. Yes, the artwork is “interesting” and “eye catching” – but one must look beyond the external layer to fully understand the message conveyed. A soft silhouette crafted with hard-edge office pins. Scrutinise the eruption of colour emanating from the pins and notice a pinhead or two selectively encrusted with SWAROVSKI® CRYSTALS adding a sophisticated-yet-understated “bling” effect to the art piece. The visual impact and message conveyed, combined with subtle criticism of our consumer culture, questionable democracy and social constraints make for a fascinating eye catching collection that simultaneously stimulates the mind.
