Questa maschera guatemalteca del inizio del XX secolo, scolpita in legno e utilizzata per la danza della Riconquista (Baila de la Conquista) , raffigura vividamente un uomo europeo, presumibilmente spagnolo. In buono stato di conservazione con policromia autentica d’epoca. La sua espressione bruttale e acuta, insieme ai colori vivaci dipinti, riflette la percezione negativa di questo personaggio da parte dei popoli indigeni. Sono presenti aperture per gli occhi, ed i fori per le narici. La danza della conquista è una messa in scena di danza drammatica che nasce alla fine del XVI secolo, introdotto da frati domenicani in Guatemala. Si tratta di un racconto didattico che i frati usarono per far credere agli indigeni che la conquista del Guatemala era stata possibile grazie a forze soprannaturali e spirituali Questa maschera, oltre a offrire un significato storico e culturale, può avere un bellissimo effetto decorativo in vari contesti, sia in un ambiente ricco di oggetti antichi che in uno spazio moderno di design, aggiungendo un tocco unico e affascinante alla sua presenza.
