Artist biography: Painter/sculptor Henk Jan Sanderman (1975), born in the Netherlands, currently lives and works in a small town in the middle of Holland. In his studio he renders oil paintings, as well as casting sculptures in porcelain and bronze. The artist’s work defines itself as humorous realism, conveying objects and various subject matter in great detail against a black and white background. In the same hyper-realistic style as his paintings, Henk Jan creates sculptures and wall artwork imbued with impressive life-like accuracy. His main focus is humorous hyperrealism painting where he sets his subject matter against a white or black background, allowing more space for interaction whilst demonstrating and emphasising intense attention to detail. The artist’s works have an endearing ambience, influenced with their light-hearted aspects. Current works demonstrative innovative merging of the canvas and sculpture, providing a contemporary body of installations. His works has been featured at Palet magazine, Atelier magazine, Coda museum, Stadsmuseum Harderwijk and museum De Fundatie. In 2014 Henk Jan participated in the television program "Sterren op het Doek" and created a portrait of Seth Gaaikema. In 2015, he was asked to return for the final season of "Sterren op het Doek", due to being one of the best artists of the past nine seasons.
