About the Item

Margit Brundin, Swedish, (b. 1981, Ängelholm, Sweden) A collection of works by Swedish ceramic artist Margit Brundin, of human-scale hares created for this exhibition, "A Place Behind the Oak Tree", transforms our gallery. Installed amongst the gallery’s renowned collection and antiques spanning from the Baroque to the mid-20th Century, these works create a world of Alice in Wonderland meets our company. In the quality and sophistication of her masterly execution of her craft, Brundin creates works that are at once playful and quite emotional. During the three-month long process, she slowly hand-builds each work in red stoneware clay, using coil construction. While applying the fine details of fur in slip, and final details with glaze, Brundin turns carvings in the surface into hairs. The painting – of liquid clay, colored with oxides such as copper, iron, manganese and cobalt, makes the surface come to life. The works are carefully treated– the ears indicate feelings, the eyes sometimes have a tear, the postures and expressions gain human traits. We are pleased to present Margit Brundin’s work in her first exhibition outside of Scandinavia. Prices for Margit Brundin's works in "A Place Behind the Oak Tree" range from $13,000 to $28,000. This unique sculpture is comprised of the Hare and square Base in stained wood with plexiglass panel. The sculpture can be removed from the base, as it is not attached, and can be installed separately. The base can also be used as a low table. Measurements: Hare: 55 x 95 x 42 cm Base: 40 x 75 x 75 cm
