About the Item

Neoclassical bronze sculpture of a young Bacchus and fawn making an offering Elias Hutter. Very fine casting with a rich patina. Early to mid 19th century. Elias Hutter: (Vienna 1774 - 1865): studied at the Vienna Academy, 1789 apprentice under Grassi, since 1807 master. Several busts of Hutter are located in the Austrian Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna , in the Johanneum Graz or the Military Museum (HGM) in Vienna.

Presented by Joseph Dasta Antiques Antonin Mercie(1845-1916) Mercié entered the École des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and studied under Alexandre Falguière and François Jouffroy, and in 1868 gained the Grand Prix de Rome at the age of 23. His first great popular successes were the David and Gloria Victis, which was shown and received the Medal of Honour of the Paris Salon. The bronze was subsequently placed in the Square Montholon.[2] The bronze David was one of his most popular works.
