The Homemade Hermes Birkin Bag is a sculpture that celebrates the beauty, and status, that the docents of fashion have bestowed upon coveted objects and accessories as such. In a Duchampian gesture of representation, the artist has created an object that has been “elevated to uselessness”, yet reveals much about our society’s infatuation with consumption and materialism.
