Ardan Özmenoğlu
Fragile

2023

About the Item

With the distinctive medium of nail polish on glass, Özmenoğlu re-contextualizes everyday objects from ordinary to beautiful works of art. Her glass panel sculptures play with the viewer’s perspective, changing with every angle to appear two- and three-dimensional. Özmenoğlu incorporates the fragility of flowers, and turns them into literal glass. However unlike real flowers, hers don't die, and stay in the vase forever. Although fragile, the glass vase and flowers give the viewers something that will last. A Turkish artist Ardan Özmenoğlu creates mesmerizing 3D artworks by using materials such as nail polish and glass in order to create sculptures. She uses her art in order to investigate how the permanence or ephemerality of images throughout history has affected human culture. She is a mixed-media contemporary artist characterized by her original use of medium, design, and content. Since her first exhibition in 2006, her works has been featured in over forty exhibitions worldwide including Istanbul, Basel, Berlin, London, and Milan. Her works can also be found in important collections internationally such as the Frankfurt Airport Collection, Osthaus Museum hagen Collection, Kala Art Institute Collection, Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, UniCredit Bank Art Collection, and the Istanbul Modern Collection amongst others. keywords: glass, plant, flowers, nature, fresh, spring, glass, 3 dimensional, layers, new york, interior design, light and shadow

  • Perspective in Orange
    By Mark Beltchenko Studio
Located in Grosse Pointe Park, MI
"Perspective in Orange" is a profound exploration of life's journey and the dynamic nature of perspective. Crafted from steel, then painted, this Constructivist style maquette (model) offers a visually striking representation of the transformative power of shifting viewpoints. The geometric lines that define the sculpture play a central role in conveying its message. As viewers encircle the work, they experience a fascinating interplay of disappearing and reappearing lines, shapes and forms. This clever use of perspective mirrors...
