Monochromatic Moon Jar III

2022

About the Item

Monochromatic Moon Jar The characteristic of the method of making moon jars is the technique of making and attaching the top and bottom separately. ‘The technique of making moon jars is not unique to Korea, but comes from China. Korea's traditional technique is to make it up little by little as its dries' (Interview with Choi Geon, 26th, November, 2010) It reveals the beauty of material and the possibility of visualizing material perception by accepting “material as -it-is” and “material in itself.” This work suggests the possibility of combining different materials, and rather than sticking to one material, it is a juxtaposition hybrid in various combinations, that is, hybridity between materials. In other words, by showing the material characteristics of black clay, which has the opposite properties and colors to white porcelain without pores, it expresses monochromatic images in a visual and sculptural languages of clay.
