About the Item

My artwork offers a thought-provoking commentary on the nature of perception and the layers of truth that can be obscured or manipulated in any given situation. The meticulous fabrication of welded steel and carved limestone serves as a metaphor for the construction of narratives and the presentation of partial truths. The deliberate choice to reveal only a portion of the stonework while concealing the rest beneath a bag-like steel form symbolizes the selective framing of information and the tendency to obscure certain perspectives or realities. This speaks to the importance of critical thinking and the necessity of seeking out the full scope of facts rather than accepting surface-level presentations at face value. The worn areas on the steel, which simulate previous use for hidden agendas, further emphasize the idea that truth can be distorted or obscured over time through manipulation and hidden motives. This aspect of my sculpture prompts viewers to consider the complexities of discerning truth in a world where misinformation and hidden agendas abound. Overall, this work serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of questioning assumptions, seeking out multiple perspectives, and striving for a fuller understanding of the realities that shape our perceptions and decisions. It encourages viewers to peel back the layers of surface appearances to uncover deeper truths beneath.
