Colosseum Mix Wood Round Glass Top Coffee Table/Cocktail Table by Po Shun Leong
By Po Shun Leong
Located in Beverly Hills, CA
The Ark collection by Po Shun Leung originated from his dreaming of ocean liners. When the sirens screamed in London during the II World War, the Leung family headed underground for the deep shelters to avoid German bombs. To escape the dangers in 1944, his father sent him as a 3 year old child to live with a carpenter in the countryside until the end of the war. The carpenter had a hobby of making model ocean liners. One of them, a majestically long vessel filled his small parlour. When he carved the complex wood pieces, Po crouched beside the liner and rolled marbles along the enclosed decks and into the maze of its inner Chambers. Mr. Page and his wife were a childless couple and became very attached to Po. When Po's parents came to collect him at the end of the war, Mrs Page was devastated and had a nervous breakdown. In 1964, Po immigrated to Mexico after receiving an architecture degree cum laude in London from the Architectural Association. For the next 16 years Po designed department stores, schools and homes and produced low-cost furniture. His architectural models were important for clients to decide whether to make the projects possible. In Mexico Po used to paint and had exhibitions, but he found that wood does not answer back in the way canvas does. Canvas loses its life very easily. You can work on wood indefinitely, strip it down and start all-over again. 58 years later in California, that model wartime liner is still there to haunt Po's way of creating art. Side Table, Milky White DOT by Reda Amalou Design, 2016 - Glossy or matt lacquer
By REDA AMALOU DESIGN
Located in Paris, FR
DOT is not a corner table. It is an invitation. A versatile experiment. First, it is about an eye hypnotized by the material. Attention is captivated by this curious magma. Mate, shiny, two-toned patina, eggshell or marble, no matter the variation, as long as there is lacquer. It requires the biggest consideration, because Dot offers as well an immersion into handicrafts. Handmade, it is a tribute to Asian craftsmanship and the patience that allows such beauty. More than 18 layers are necessary to give life to the color, for it to irradiate and exalt any interior. It declines in sixteen shades, each one of them allows to interact with the touch, emotion, memory, and mostly boldness. But DOT is mostly the illustration of an elaborated design, but still reachable. The certitude that luxury can unit with everyday life.
DOT is not a corner table, it is an icon. DOT is available in different lacquered colors in glossy and mate finishes. It could be used as a side table or as a bedside The DOT tables are finished using a traditional hand applied lacquer. A minimum of 18 coats...
