A real statement piece!
Made of a fabulous variety of veneers, including kingwood, satinwood, tulipwood, harewood and walnut with quality classical ormolu mounts.
It has ebonized pillars in the Empire style, with walnut and exotic hardwood friezes in the Rococo style.
Double glass doors to middle section and single glass doors on either side.
The glass on the doors are framed in ormolu banding.
Floral Marquetry panels on front and parquetry on the sides.
The front central section is a pullout / pull-out drawers with gorgeous walnut frieze panel and original carved walnut knobs.
Scrolling pelmet on the top in 3 sections banded in ormolu beading.
Scrolling base with cabriolet feet and ormolu mounts on base.
Various ormolu mounts, floral mounts, mounts of Baachus and mounts of neoclassical female figures.
In 3 sections. with 2 side cabinets and large central section with 3 section pelmet, stunning piece!!!
The quality ormolu mounts are marked with the letter “R” and what appears to be “FR 678”.
We were originally of the belief that this piece might have been made at the very end of the 19th century, but having regard to the quality of workmanship throughout this piece we are of the opinion that it was most likely made in the third quarter of the 19th century, circa 1870 and by an obviously top quality Parisienne maker with a surname beginning with “R”.
It is definitely in the style of David Roentgen who was known for his Rococo/neoclassical styles.
David Roentgen, (born Aug. 11, 1743-died Feb. 12, 1807, Wiesbaden, Duchy of Nassau), cabinetmaker to Queen Marie-Antoinette of France; under his direction the family workshop at Neuwied (near Cologne), founded by his father, Abraham Roentgen, became perhaps the most-successful firm of furniture production in the 18th century.
After succeeding his father as head of the Neuwied workshop in 1772, Roentgen strove to broaden their clientele, an ambition that brought him first to Hamburg and ultimately to Paris (1774), where in 1779 he was spectacularly successful in selling his finest furniture to King Louis XVI of France for £3,300 to £4,000, an unprecedented sum for the time.
Appointed cabinetmaker to the queen, Roentgen was granted admission (1780) as maître-ébéniste (master cabinetmaker) to the trade corporation of Paris cabinetmakers, making it possible for him to keep in Paris a stock of the furniture manufactured at Neuwied. Thus he was able to compete with such great cabinetmakers as Jean-Henri Riesener and Adam Weisweiler, reputedly his former pupil at Neuwied. After his first visit to St. Petersburg, Empress Catherine II the Great bought huge quantities of his furniture; King Frederick William II of Prussia was also his client. When in 1795 the French Revolutionary armies threatened to cross the Rhine, Roentgen evacuated his establishment and moved his stock farther inland. Unfortunately, he lost everything in his Parisian salon and in his Neuwied workshop, both of which were sacked by Republican troops. He was crushed, despite his appointment as court furnisher to the king of Prussia. Although he never succeeded in starting production again, former apprentices of his whom he helped to establish in the German cities of Berlin (David Hacker...

Monumental Triptych Oil on Canvas Panels Of New Orleans French Quarter Houses
Located in Dallas, TX
PRESENTING a simply beautiful, monumental and imposing original work of contemporary art, namely, a Triptych oil on canvas panels of New Orleans Colonial/French Quarter Houses.
Unsigned and undated, but most definitely inspired by the World Renowned New Orleans artist, James Michalopoulos.
These were not painted by Michalopoulos, but were clearly inspired by him and his famous depictions of ‘wavey’ New Orleans houses. Also, they were created and painted in New Orleans, contemporaneously to when Michalopoulos was starting to become recognized, in the New Orleans (and greater) artworld.
The 3 panels work perfectly together as a visual feast and ‘connected’ work of art.
The panel on the left features a wavy blue, grey and yellow, French Quarter style 2 Story Wooden house, complete with Corinthian Style Columns, decks, railings, storm shuttered windows, etc. It has a deep blue sky with shimmering light reflections. The garden to the front, has steps leading to the house and has shrubs and flowers, that are continued into the 2nd or middle/center panel.
The middle or center panel incorporates the other side of the garden plants etc for continuity and it features a single story pink, yellow and white wavy French Quarter style house, with fabulous decor and complete with decks, railings, storm shuttered windows, etc. It has a deep blue sky with shimmering light reflections and a white moon, emitting swirling patterns of light. The garden to the front, has steps leading to the house and has shrubs and flowers, that are continued into the 3rd or right panel.
The right panel, features a wavy light...

Traditional Hand-Knotted Afghan Rug
Located in Dallas, TX
Afghan rugs, often known as Afghan carpets, are hand-woven rugs that are historically created in Afghanistan, though many are also weaved by Afghan refugees in Pakistan. Afghan rugs received the international prizes in 2008, 2013, and 2014, which are hosted yearly in Hamburg, Germany. Various ethnic groups, primarily Turkmen, assemble Afghan rugs in northern and western Afghanistan. [1] The Shindand or Adraskan (named after local Afghan cities) is one of the most unusual and distinctive of all oriental rugs, produced in the Herat Province of western Afghanistan. Their hallmark appearance is bizarrely elongated human and animal designs. Carpets are sold all over Afghanistan, although the majority are sold in Mazar-e Sharif.
Afghan rugs are traditionally classified into two types: Turkman carpets and Baluchi...

New Persian Rug with Sultanabad Design
Located in Dallas, TX
While carpets of this type take their name from the district of Mahallat, they were generally produced in and around the town of Arak, formerly known as Sultanabad. It is very interesting to note how the town of Sultanabad came into existence. It is said that well over a century ago – in the early 1800s – the principal market town of the area was Mushkabad, which was also the administrative center for the district. The story goes that there was some disturbance in the district – probably over taxes – and that the then Shah of Persia, one Fath Ali Shah...

19C French Gilt Metal 12 Light Phoenix Chandelier with Swarovski Crystal
Located in Dallas, TX
Presenting a stunning 19C French gilt metal 12 light phoenix chandelier with Swarovski crystal.
This chandelier pre-dates the advent of electricity and originally would have held candles.
Made in France circa 1860 it was converted to electrical use in the early 20th Century, circa 1920. We can deduce this from the holes that were drilled into the piece to convert it and to install the wiring.
Very ‘Rococo’ in style it has 4 branches, each holding 3 lights (12 in total). The branches are scrolling and flowing vine leaves. The light sockets have tulip like holders which sit on and a large starburst shaped flower.
The base section ends in a downward pointing flower. The central and top sections again have scrolling vine leaves, separated by a large starburst shaped flower. The crown is a large starburst shaped flower/leaf.
What makes this chandelier truly unique are the 4 ‘Phoenix’ birds around the top of the light section, each with a flower petal underneath.
They are unmistakeably ‘Phoenix’ birds !
The chandelier has approximately 50+ large Swarovski Crystal faceted pendant drops.
We still get a ‘chuckle’ from the fact that this stunningly rare chandelier features the ‘Phoenix”. We acquired it from a high-end estate here in Dallas from a Mansion built in 1929. When we acquired it, it was in pieces, albeit the pieces were all there in a large box (save the crystal). All the wiring was gone and one branch was broken. We repaired the broken branch, re-wired it, re-assembled it and used gorgeous 1960’s Swarovski crystals to replace the missing originals ….. only then did we notice the birds ….. TRULY … ‘The Rise of the Phoenix from the Ashes’ !!!! LOL
The crystal alone on this, is worth over $2k.
The phoenix is an immortal bird associated with Greek mythology (with analogs in many cultures) that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, others that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again. In the Motif-Index of Folk-Literature, a tool used by folklorists, the phoenix is classified as motif B32.
The origin of the phoenix has been attributed to Ancient Egypt by Herodotus and later 19th-century scholars, but other scholars think the Egyptian texts may have been influenced by classical folklore. Over time the phoenix motif spread and gained a variety of new associations; Herodotus, Lucan, Pliny the Elder, Pope Clement I, Lactantius, Ovid, and Isidore of Seville are among those who have contributed to the retelling and transmission of the phoenix motif. Over time, extending beyond its origins, the phoenix could variously “symbolize renewal in general as well as the sun, time, the Empire, metempsychosis, consecration, resurrection, life in the heavenly Paradise, Christ, Mary, virginity, the exceptional man, and certain aspects of Christian life”. Some scholars have claimed that the poem De ave phoenice may present the mythological phoenix motif as a symbol of Christ’s resurrection...
