Early 20th Century French Terrestrial Globe with Brass Frame Signed Forest Paris
By J. Forest
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorate an office with this spectacular antique globe. Crafted in France, circa 1920 (it shows Constantinople not Istanbul; the city changed its name in 1930), the terrestrial piece sits on a pedestal base with three legs with paw feet and decorated with acanthus leaves. The brass stem holds the 12" swivel globe which is signed J. Forest Paris (see picture), and stamped as such; "Globe Terrestre a l'echelle de 40,000,000, dresse par J. Forest, geographe, Officier de l'Instruction Publique, Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur, Editeur, 17-19 rue de Buci, Paris". The globe is in excellent condition with a rich patinated brass finish. The paper globe with physics, politics and history, rotates on a calibrated brass basket frame with brass meridian circle, horizon ring and hour ring, supported by four brass quadrants. J. Forest made a large variety of globes in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, largely for school use, but also for home use. Their prolific output included table globes, some on ebonized turned stands; floor globes; and novelty globes, including terrestrial globes on geared turntable stands...
