János Huszti Portrait Paintings
Hungarian
Janos Huszti is an emerging painter based in Budapest, Hungary. Evocative of analog photography, his practice of oil on canvas blends figure study and portraiture with a distinctive cinematic gaze. Huszti’s inventive techniques of blurring wet paint across the canvas, and omission of key elements of the body inserts a mystifying distance between the subject and the viewer, abstracting in enigmatic fashion subtle narratives within the work.(Biography provided by MiXX atelier)

Unlikely Event 5 (The Soothsayer)
By Ajegbomogun Damilola
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
Can we please lay out the tables now? Can we allow the days? Once more permit the rivers and oceans to lie in their beds? May I close my eyes and reach out, breathing normally again, certain that the sky is filled with birds, and that you will remain? Or shall we send me back into the grey-blue chambers of disconnection and hollow ambition?
A strange card to the wail of the unseen host, somewhere in Africa across the fields, turning over an unfortunate card and laying them slickly in the firelight, winking in such dark, knowing eyes. I was passing at some distance, circled and charmed to all ends, painting the figure in place of any other kind of sustenance, yet distracted and possessed by one who would undoubtedly deny it. One who would claim to have never had my name.

What are people's criteria for judging beauty? A beautiful face? A different existence? A feeling of pleasure? Or just follow what others say and make yourself feel the same way? A woman with a slender body but an ugly face, do you think she is beautiful? A girl with a beautiful appearance but a heart like a scorpion, do you think she is beautiful? An ugly but kind-hearted girl, do you think she is beautiful? What is it that blurs the eyes of human beings and makes people's judgments of beauty vary widely?
