Vintage “Pepe” Textile by Maija Isola for Marimekko, '1972'
By Marimekko
Located in Brooklyn, NY
A piece of Maija Isola's classic "Pepe" textile design for Marimekko from 1972 that is 2.33 yards long. Isola designed the pattern in 1970 and it shows two parrots facing each other while sitting on a tree branch. (Marimekko describes the two birds as "having a chat".) This pattern came in several color combinations. This piece has birds with purple bodies, turquoise beaks, and olive green markings sitting on light orange branches against a dark orange background shape. The pattern repeats 3 times on this piece of silk-screened fabric with one instance that allows for seeing all of the scene.
