This embellished pinafore skirt is by Alexander McQueen and was seen on the runway as look 16 for the brand’s Spring 2007 collection. Designed before the Lee's tragic death in 2010, McQueen house codes abound. Note the subtle hint of gothicism, the canny draping of the inky-black crepe and the intricate beading that creates fantastical forms along the pinafore’s sides. Adorned with rhinestones, metallic beads and silver sequins, the glittering straps give way to a form-fitting, decadently-detailed skirt that hugs the body - the perfect pairing to a high-neck bodysuit, or a piece of glamorous lingerie if you dare. This is such a great piece of 1970s original vintage. A candy stripe cotton is embellished with black velvet bands to give this fun skirt extra oomph. The stripes alternate from horizontal to vertical from the waistband to the hem. A well positioned horizontal striped panel sits across the hips with a slimming vertical band leading down to below the knee point. Here the skirt has a band of horizontal stripes that lend the dress a super flattering silhouette. The knee seam then feeds into a puckered vertical long hem with a lovely deep flounce.
