"Untitled, Homage Series", Figurative Glass Sculpture with Steel Base, Blown
By Jenny Pohlman and Sabrina Knowles
Located in St. Louis, MO
Pohlman and Knowles began their collaboration in 1992. They use a variety of materials in their rich assemblages, including hot-sculpted glass, various metal works, found objects and beads, achieving a fine sense of formal balance. Three notable research field trips had a profound impact on their personal and artistic development: in 1997 they visited Zimbabwe and Botswana; returning to Africa they visited Ghana in 2000; and in 2002 they traveled to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and East Africa. They gathered creative and emotional inspiration from these travels. These experiences are used to create sculptures that embody mythological stories in glass. Part of the narrative of the object is derived from the artists’ own travels and part by ancient cultures and magic of African life as witnessed by the two artists: “We have a point of origin and balance our elements within that framework. “ Selected Collections Boca Raton Museum of Art, Boca Raton, FL Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma, WA Cancer Care Alliance Center, Seattle, WA Anne Gould Hauberg Collection, Seattle, WA Allen & Kathleen Shoup Collection, Seattle, WA Jon & Mary Shirley Collection, Seattle, WA Museum of American Glass, Millville, NJ Museum of Glass, Tacoma, WA Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI Mobile Museum of Art, Mobile, AL "Untitled, Homage Series", Figurative Glass Sculpture...

"You Silly Billy", Figurative Ceramic Sculpture, Porcelain, Glaze, Underglaze
By Kyungmin Park
Located in St. Louis, MO
Kyungmin Park is a figurative ceramic sculptor drawing inspiration from childlike perspectives. Contrasting the darker emotions and restricted psyche of adulthood with the boundless consciousness of children, Kyungmin’s sculptures confront the view with uncomfortable juxtapositions, encouraging reflection upon personal expectations and narratives. Kyungmin largely uses handbuilding techniques to construct her figures out of porcelain, a material she prefers for its ability to contrast starkly with bright and colorful decoration. Originally from South Korea, Kyungmin earned her MFA in Ceramics from the University of Georgia in 2012 and her BFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University in 2008. Currently, Kyungmin is an Assistant Professor of 3D studio Art at Endicott College in Beverly...

"Ghost of the Lotus Shoes", Contemporary, Figurative, Porcelain, Sculpture
By Irina Zaytceva
Located in St. Louis, MO
Irina Zaytceva was born in Moscow in 1957. She graduated from Moscow Art Institute ( Poljgrapfichesky) with an MFA in book illustration. Having illustrated a number of children books, she found porcelain by chance; a friend had given her a piece of clay, which prompted her to experiment with the new media and fell in love with it. Fine porcelain is a perfect canvas for her drawings, and with the ability to bend her “canvas,” she can add sculptural elements to the picture. Someone called this hybrid media narrative sculpture, a term Irina thinks aptly describes her work. Never formally trained in ceramics, Irina had to invent ways to handle it. Unlike many of her colleagues who paint with oil based colors, she uses water based colors and has developed her own techniques in this media. She does not use casting but hand rolls her vases, cups, and, sculptures. With every piece porcelain yields its secrets to her. Since 1998, Irina resides in USA and presently have her studio near Princeton, New Jersey. Selected Public Collections Racine Art Museum, Racine, WI Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids, MI Fine Art Museum of San Francisco, CA Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia University of Michigan Art Museum, Ann Arbor, MI "Ghost of the Lotus Shoes...
