More About Gallery Hozho

Here paintings by Kelly Frye. Frye’s paintings and sculptures explore themes of healing from trauma. “The soul and spirit of my work springs from my curious nature. This curiosity has led me to many adventures throughout my life. Self-discovery through the arts allows me to express a contemporary voice of my Indigenous world. I find limitless possibilities of expression in a combination of historical and personal narratives.

Located in the spacious Hotel Chaco; designed by international award-winning architectural firm, Gensler. We host gallery openings, artist features, and monthly city art walks. We are open to the public and can reserve the space for private events.

A gallery for working artists of the Southwest and the state of New Mexico. Gallery Hozho's Director, Suzanne Fricke, has a Ph.D. in art history and over 30 years of experience teaching and curating art. Chelsea A. Benally, Gallery Assistant Director, is also an established painter and photographer with several works exhibited in the gallery.

The vast skies and wide panoramas of the New Mexican landscape have long been a source of inspiration for artists. Here, canvas work from David Naranjo and pottery by Jacob Frye.

New Mexico is home to many Indigenous groups, including the Pueblos and the Apache, LatinX communities, and to many who moved to New Mexico, drawn in by the blue skies and high desert air.

August in New Mexico is synonymous with Native American art and the century old: SWAIA. Here we have two canvas works of artist David Naranjo. David Naranjo is from the Pueblos of Santa Clara, San Juan, and Cochiti reinterprets historic pottery in two dimensions, expressing cultural symbolism through hardline abstraction.

Works of Julia Lambright. She received an MFA with Distinction in painting from the University of New Mexico. Working in oil in the past, her prime medium of choice is egg-tempera, knowledge she acquired from masters in Russia and the United States. While searching for a personal spiritual experience, Lambright began exploring iconographic canons, formulas, and techniques of 17th century icon painting.
