STRUCTURAL POROSITY 02 - Sculptural Wall Hanging w/ Found & Repurposed Objects

2022

About the Item

In STRUCTURAL POROSITY 02, Liz Miller creates a sculptural wall hanging piece which builds on the juxtapositions between strength and malleability, architecture and fiber, structure and knots. Building within the porous negative space inherent in her structural usage of a decorative garden gate, she weaves together various, discordant styles of rope into a cohesive whole, expressing to the viewer the boundary-defying curiosity of porousness, of holes. This piece is created with an assortment of rope, zip ties, and other household objects on a wooden, metal, and plastic armature, creating a blend between sculpture, fashion, painting, and interior design. STRUCTURAL POROSITY 02 was part of a solo exhibition at Channel To Channel Gallery in July 2022.

  • 'The Calendar Wheel' assemblage in drawer with spheres clock shells cards

'Calendar Wheel' is an original assemblage by the American artist Charles Berg. Within a divided drawer, Berg has assembled a variety of found objects: metal balls, a clock, a sheet of copper punched with the word 'wind,' a Victorian card of a woman, etc. The artwork takes its name, however, from a transparent 1935 calendar in the lower right. Berg here is following the tradition other artists who specialize in assemblage, including Joseph Cornell, Robert Rauchenberg, and Betye Saar...
