About the Item
J Louis
J Louis is both an heir and a heretic; carrying on a rich artistic tradition while subtly challenging its conventions. Evoking the lush atmospherics of Impressionist masters, Louis's forms are invariably female. They are posed in classical style, draped languidly over couches, hands overhead. With hooded eyes and softly parted lips, they are caught squarely in the male gaze. But in the work of J Louis, that gaze is returned. His subjects are not passive objects of desire. They are equal partners; the artist and the subject engaged in a sensual symbiosis. Combining elements of realism and abstraction, Louis's style is reminiscent of Klimt, his love of women equally palpable. But in a nod to his milieu, J Louis imbues his work with reverence for not just the female form, but the particular woman who inhabits it.

- "Lost in Thought" Oil PaintingBy Kelly BirkenruthLocated in Denver, COKelly Birkenruth's (US based) "Lost in Thought" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts a lone female figure in profile looking towards Japanese blossoms in the background while resting her elbow on her knee. Kelly Birkenruth’s captivating paintings are in the style of contemporary realism while staying firmly grounded in the tradition of the Old Masters. She is able to pull the viewer into her paintings by interweaving emotion with a humanistic quality through her supreme handling of light. Through her portraits and still lifes she is able to evoke sensitivity and empathy, which in turn allows her to create images which transcend mere representation to capture the true essence of her subject. Kelly’s arresting compositions, draftsmanship, use of color and observation of detail allow her to create paintings with a timeless quality. After earning her degree from Pennsylvania State University, Kelly moved to southern California where she began a career as a fashion model. Her agency soon sent her abroad to Paris and Tokyo, where she spent the next several years modeling. When she wasn’t walking the runway, she spent endless hours in the great museums of the world, closely observing and studying the works of the Old Masters. “My time abroad, particularly in Paris, opened my eyes to the vast beauty and power of a great painting. After that I knew I wanted to dedicate my life to the pursuit of Fine Art” said Birkenruth. After returning to the States, Kelly studied at Otis College of Art in Los Angeles, CA. She then continued her studies through workshops and private study with renowned artists such as Daniel Sprick, Steven Assael and Jesus Emmanuel Villarreal. In the spring of 2019 Kelly...Category

- "Pinocchio", Oil PaintingBy Jason WalkerLocated in Denver, COJason Walker's (CAN based) "Pinocchio" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts Pinocchio figurine holding a book and apple while dancing against a black background. About the Artist: Jason Walker’s imagery reflects popular culture: from Disney’s Mary Poppins or Mickey Mouse to frosted doughnuts. As observer and conveyor of cultural icons, he is an anthropologist and his beautiful and often endearing paintings resonates with art viewers. But this Toronto artist is also an analyst. Conceived with the clear-eyed vision of a native of Nairn, Scotland, Walker’s compositions challenge viewers to consider contemporary culture. Through his iconography, Walker creates artifacts, a paint-on-canvas time capsule for future generations. His images are representational rather than abstract. His subjects from Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz to Peter Pan’s Tinker Bell are non-elitist, international, and easily identified. A portrait of our time, Walker’s renditions are intimate and lifelike, crafted with diffused edges or Old-Master chiaroscuro. Painted in Renaissance jewel...Category
