Tim Solliday
The Mexican Hat

2011

About the Item

Provenance Acquired by the gallery directly from the artist Description Solliday creates an homage to Old California ranchero life, the Hacienda, and its Mexican roots. The fiesta colors of red, yellow, turquoise and orange bring to mind a celebration of western heritage and culture. The subject focuses on the traditions of farming, weaving, pottery, and craftsmanship—skillfully portrayed in the handling of textures ranging from smooth peppers to a woven wool blanket. The worn sombrero conveys a message of dedication to working outdoors with one's hands.
