Musée d'Art Moderne, Strasbourg, 11 September - 28 November 1982, similar cast exhibited under no.101. With his sculpture Poisson, Georges Braque offers a vision of a popular theme finding its' origin in Antiquity: still-life. However, faithful to his unique technique which stands in contrast to a realistic representation, Braque imagined a monochrome fish created of pure and geometric shapes and represented in a distinctive cubist manner. This notable style had been explored by the artist from the beginning of his career the early years of the 20th century, as was his penchant for the theme of still-life. Braque had also produced a few oil paintings around this theme in the 1940s, his sculpture Poisson nevertheless remains unique and was initially a gift from the artist to his friends.
