Bramin Møbler Sofas

Danish

Bramin Møbler manufactured quality Scandinavian modern furniture from the mid-1950s until the early 1980s.

Originally founded as N.A. Jørgensen Møbelfabrik in Bramming, Denmark, the company rebranded as Bramin Møbler in the late 1950s. During the 1960s, Bramin Møbler pivoted from the traditional Scandinavian style it had been known for as N.A. Jørgensen Møbelfabrik and steered toward the emerging Scandinavian modern style.

It prioritized quality, form and function, which it promoted in its ad campaigns. By fashioning its chairs, dining tables and sideboards from strong woods like oak, teak and rosewood, and by using wool and leather to upholster its seating, Bramin Møbler ensured that the superb quality of its work would last.

Throughout the company’s operation, Bramin Møbler collaborated with many highly regarded modern furniture makers, including Johannes Andersen, Hans Olsen, Kurt Østervig and Frank Reenskaug. It had its most successful partnership with Norwegian furniture designer H. W. Klein, who moved to Bramming to work for Bramin Møbler. Over two decades, Klein created finely crafted coffee tables and dining chairs, but he is best known for his lounge chairs — most notably, his leather-padded swivel lounger, with its five-spoked, wheeled base. Klein also was fascinated with the concept of plastic furniture and worked closely with the company to come up with a new method for manufacturing furniture from plastic.

The global recession of the 1980s hit Bramming hard. Many of its numerous furniture manufacturers had to close their doors — Bramin Møbler included. Bramin Møbler creations remain highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of Scandinavian and mid-century modern furniture styles.

Sculptural Wingback Sofa by H.W. Klein for Bramin Mobler of Denmark, 1950's
By Bramin Mobler, H.W. Klein
Located in Culver City, CA
This sofa is spectacular! Designed by H.W. Klein for Bramin Mobler in the late 1950's, this sculptural sofa is just as comfortable as it is beautiful. With long, clean lines and arched wingback sides, the body is reminiscent of an Arne Jacobsen egg chair. The back of the sofa showcases the solid teak frame that perfectly cradles the body of the sofa. The teak frame is further accentuated with its rich color and patina that really pops off the white lower-pile fine Belgian boucle...

Vintage Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern Black Leather Sofa 265 by H.W. Klein
By H.W. Klein, Bramin Mobler
Located in Warszawa, Mazowieckie
This modernist three-seater sofa was designed by H.W. Klein for the Danish Bramin manufactory in 1966. Model 265. It is upholstered in high-quality black natural leather. It has loose wide cushions, filled with Vestan Fiber-fill fiber, due to which they remain flexible. The solid legs are made of richly grain wood. The combination of these two materials emphasizes the best qualities of classic Danish furniture art of the Mid-Century Modern era. Henry Walter Klein is a Norwegian designer known for his innovative approach to furniture production methods. He has designed furniture for the living room, bedroom, but also churches and hotels. His sideboards, armchairs, chairs and tables are timeless Scandinavian creations. He joined the Royal Navy as a carpenter during World War II. Two years later he joined to a technical school in Denmark, where he was tutored by Finn Juhl. In 1959 he graduated from design studies and founded his own studio. He developed new production methods, but his ideas were costly. To solve this problem, he invited the greatest names of Scandinavian design to discover a new approach to plastic. It was a great success: Fitz Hansen bought the patents. During the economic crisis of the 1980s, Klein left for the United States and stayed there. From the Bramin catalogs and advertisements, we can conclude that NA Jørgensen...
