Large Midcentury Bowl from the Baca Series by Nils Thorsson for Aluminia

About the Item

Large midcentury bowl from the Baca series by Nils Thorsson for Aluminia This highly detailed ceramic/faience bowl is part of Aluminia's / Royal Copenhagen's BACA series, designed by Nils Thorsson (1898-1975) and produced in the 1960s. This particular bowl is quite rare. It is made of stoneware and was decorated with Thorsson's highly detailed and complex relief pattern in a beautiful yellow tone contrasting beautifully with the dark grey tones o of the rest of the bowl. The BACA series with its characteristic abstract and bold patterns designed by various artists under the direction of Nils Thorsson is considered by many to be prime examples of mid-century modernism among ceramic forms. The bowl is stamped and carry Nils Thorsson's signature stamp and a blue mark of Alulminia which later was aquired by Royal Copenhagen.
