About the Item
Shaped and painted in gorgeous blue and gray glazes by Edouard Cazaux, master sculptor and ceramicist who exemplified the French Art Deco style at its finest, this ceramic dish or bowl features a nude male figure in combat with a large serpent. Cazaux studied at the Beaux Arts School in Sèvres as a young man, and participated in the famous Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes (which later gave the Art Deco style its name) in 1925, as part of the "Evolution of Style" exhibition in the Arthur Goldscheider pavilion.
