About the Item

French gilt-bronze and carrara marble clock garniture by E.De. Labroue, Paris, circa 1890. emblematic of the cloth of dusk being drawn over the earth, three putti and two doves raised on a cloudbank, the spherical clockcase signed E. DE. LABROUE. Ft. DE BRONZES. A PARIS, the movement with the Labroue seal and numbered 328, the eleven-light candelabra molded as putti raising aloft acanthus-scrolled candlebranches. Possibly associated. Note The bronzier and fondeur E. De Labroue gained the trust of the major sculptors of the 19th century, allowing the firm to reproduce in bronze important carved marble sculptures. See for instance a cast in bronze by De Labroue of the celebrated white marble figure entitled 'Une heure de la nuit' by Joseph-Michel-Ange Pollet. This bronze was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle in 1855 and is now in the Museum at Rheims. Pradier and Carrier-Belleuse also gave the right to De Labroue to reproduce their work.
