Green Rope Vessel by SkLO

About the Item

Green rope vessel by SkLO Dimensions: D 29 x H 50 cm Materials: Glass, brass Available in clear, pine tree green and smokey brown. Available in 4 metal finishes: dark oxidized, polished nickel, brushed nickel, brushed brass. Oversized cylindrical vessels of handblown Czech glass, each with a decorative thick rope loop that passes through holes in the glass. The rope loops are permanently joined together with a length of brass tube. Functional, yet the simple detail of the rope elevates this into an object all its own. Note that the rope “handle” is purely decorative, and the vessel is not meant to be lifted by the rope. We design and manufacture handblown glass lighting and objects from our studios in Healdsburg, Northern California and the Czech Republic. Every SkLO product is made with a deep appreciation for the richness of its organic material and the historical Craft tradition it embodies. SkLO designs demonstrate careful attention to detail, and a commitment to achieving the simplest expression of beauty. This belief in simplicity and design discipline is always balanced by a deep respect for the raw material, and closeness to the maker. There’s an inherent primal brutality and unexpectedness in glassblowing, and in Czech glass in particular. Masters of the Craft make manipulation of molten glass appear effortless, as they employ generations of skillful technique. Our designs celebrate this process in their subtle irregularities, making each one a unique reflection of its long history. SkLO was founded by husband and wife design team Karen Gilbert and Paul Pavlak, and visionary Pavel Hanousek. For Karen and Paul, SkLO represented the opportunity to make whole their shared philosophy about Craft, while utilizing each of their individual skills. Karen’s as an acclaimed Craft artist and metalsmith, whose hands-on work integrated glass; and Paul’s as a trained and practicing architect with a deep belief in the honesty of materials, expression of process, and importance of restraint.

    By Liam Reeves
    Located in London, GB
Polychromatic Interleave 004, is a unique handblown glass vessel with fine filigree white cane detail by the British artist Liam Reeves. The three colours of glass in red, blue and green, merge in the making to create a larger spectrum of hues where they meet, covering the white canes below. A truly exquisite piece. Liam Reeves has been making glass professionally since 1998 when he graduated from Middlesex University with a BA (Hons) in three-dimensional design. During this time he has honed his skills whilst working in the glass industry for some of the best glassmakers in the UK. In 2009 Reeves studied for an MA at the RCA in order to explore the creative possibilities of the medium of glassblowing. He is currently hot-glass technician at the very same and prestigious Royal College of Art in London. While at the RCA Liam discovered a passion for investigating pivotal techniques from glassblowing’s two-millennia of rich history. From the mould blowing of ancient Rome to the complex goblet-making techniques of Renaissance Venice...
