French Vide-Poche Ceramic Tray with Bird Decor by Jacques Blin, 1950s
About the Item
Very rare ceramic bowl or vide-poche with bird motif by French artist Jaques Blin from the 1950s.
Jacques Blin was born in France in 1920. He earned a degree in engineering, but decided to make a living from his passion. So, in 1954, he founded his own ceramic workshop. In the same year, he exhibited his creations at exhibitions for ceramists and art professions, as well as at the Maison de la Chimie. A dedicated advocate of ceramic art, he became vice president of the International Academy of Ceramics in Geneva. Likewise, he held the office of President of the Chambre Syndicale of Ceramists for over twenty years.
The Vide Poche is an established interior accessory in stylish households from Paris to Berlin, conveying the French lifestyle. Usually positioned in the entryway, the classic rectangular bowl gathers the "nécessités de la vie" such as keys and coins in a place of orderly chaos, keeping them always at hand. Also as an aesthetic shelf for the coffee table or jewelry bowl in the bathroom, it quickly becomes an indispensable centerpiece with that certain "je-ne-sais-quoi".
