Antique Victorian Pair of Cut Glass and Sterling Silver Scent Bottles

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of large antique Victorian English sterling silver and cut-glass scent bottles; an addition to our silver mounted glass collection. These exceptional antique Victorian cut-glass cologne bottles have a globular shaped form. These large scent bottles retain the original sterling silver stoppers, embellished with embossed scroll and leaf ornamentation, accented with floral designs. Each globular glass body has a waisted faceted neck and incorporates a circular collar to the upper portion. The body of each bottle is encompassed with impressive hobnail style cut-glass ornamentation, in addition to a star cut motif to the underside. These impressive bottles were crafted by the renowned London silversmiths William Comyns & Sons. Condition These antique large scent bottles are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The embossed decoration is all very sharp. The glass is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each stopper are all very clear.     A fine and impressive pair of antique George V English sterling silver, glass and enamel scent bottles; an addition to our silver mounted glass collection. This fine pair of antique George V glass scent bottles has a circular rounded form. Each bottle is fitted with a plain hallmarked sterling silver mount with a hinged hallmarked cover. The covers feature fine and impressive hot enamel panels depicting very similar (but not identical) lakeside scenes with a mountain backdrop. The cover of each opens to reveal the original glass stopper and gilt interior. The glass bodies of the scent bottles are embellished with fine quality cut glass decoration in a geometric design with a band of egg and tongue style ornamentation to the shoulders.     An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian glass and silver mounted claret jug; part of our silver mounted glass collection. This exceptional antique Victorian glass and sterling silver and glass claret jug has a circular rounded form onto a circular spreading foot. The upper portion of the glass body is fitted with the original hallmarked sterling silver mount embellished with an incurved shaped border. The plain domed hallmarked hinged cover is encircled with a band of applied bead decoration and surmounted with an impressive swept, knopped bead decorated finial. This Victorian claret jug is fitted with an S-scroll handle featuring a plain scrolling thumb piece. The glass body of the jug is embellished with an exceptional acid etched illustration depicting a putto entangled with flowing ribbons, playing a stylized percussion triangle whilst standing on the back of a moth style insect. In art and culture, a putto (plural: putti) is a chubby male child, usually nude and occasionally bearing wings. Condition The mount of this antique silver and glass claret jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The mount has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The plain glass body of the jug is in perfect condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mount and part hallmarks struck to the interior of the cover are very clear. Dimensions Length from back of handle to lip 15.3cm/6".     An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver combination scent bottle / pill box / vinaigrette; an addition to our diverse collectable silverware collection. This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver combination vinaigrette / pill box / scent bottle has an oval barrel shaped form. The body of the vessel is embellished with applied plain broad girdles replicating the details of the bilge and quarter hoops, which provide anchor points for the original link chain. The piece retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover to the scent bottle, conjoined to one of the aforementioned anchor points with a link chain. One end of the vessel is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover, which when opened reveals the vinaigrette with the original hinged grille and gilt interior. The gilded grille is ornamented with a bright cut engraved and pierced decorated bordered scroll and leaf design. The hallmarked hinged cover to the opposing end forms a pill box and opens to reveal the original gilt interior; this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions.
