Early George III Silver Dish Cross, London 1766 by Herbert & Co.

About the Item

An early George III articulated silver dish cross, London 1766. The raised central bulbous spirit burner is topped with a lid decorated with a gadroon border. Rotating cross-section arms and adjustable cast shell decorated dish holders and feet. Hallmarked for London 1766 by Herbert & Co. The body, feet and arms are all identically hallmarked. Overall in very good condition, with no splits dents or repairs. Of a thick gauge of silver with a lovely lustre. Mechanical dish crosses of this age are quite scarce as few have survived the usage over the years. This piece is still in very good functioning order and a very practical addition to the modern dining table. Measures: Diameter 29cm or 11.5 inches Height 9cm or 3.5 inches Weight 504 g, 16.2 oz Troy or 17.8oz.
