Lake George, State of New York Platter by Enoch Wood and Sons, circa 1830. This handsome deep blue Staffordshire platter is made of white earthenware with a blue transfer. It was made by one of the leading Staffordshire makers Enouch Wood and Sons. The platter has a scene of Lake George, New York with it's sloping mountains. It has a wide rim decorated with shells which was one of Enoch Wood and Sons' most frequently used boarders. It is marked ''Lake George State of New York'' Stamped ''Enoch Wood and Sons Bursle Semi China.'' Hard to find image. Enoch Wood (1759-1840) was know as 'Father of the Potteries', He became a very successful Stafforedshire manufacturer due to a successful export trade to North America with his series of American scenes. The Lake George scene is thought to be inspired by an ingraving by Peter Maverick in the 1825 guidebook ''The Northern Traveller.'' N.P. Trent has been a respected name in antiques for over 30 years with a large collection of period furniture, art and decorative accessories.
