Antique Silver Footed Sweetmeat Dish by Hugo Bohm of Germany

US$595

About

An antique footed sweetmeat dish in 800 silver with a clear insert of heavy glass by Hugo Böhm & Co. of Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany, founded in 1887. The solid silver dish dates circa 1900 and was crafted in the Neoclassical / Empire style. The reticulated oval body is flanked by two handles and rests on four reeded legs terminating in lion paw feet. The delicate design would make a handsome serving dish for jelly, cranberries, or a relish / sauce. The underside bears the German crescent moon / crown / 800 (silver purity) marks followed by silversmith Hugo Bohm's maker's mark. The silver is in very good condition; the heavy glass insert has a couple of tiny inclusions and smooth fleabite nibbles at the rim. The design measures 8 in. L (from outer edges of handle to handle) x 5 in. W x 3.5 in. height. No monograms.
