Pair Antique Georgian Rococo Revival Silver Sauce Boats Gravy Jugs Ladles, 1809

About the Item

A magnificent pair of Antique George III sterling Silver Sauce Boats in an impressive Rocco Revival Style, referencing the Rococo designs of the 1740s. The Gravy Boats have a beautiful stylised shell shape and are decorated with chased designs. The Gravy Boats were made in London, England in 1809 by William Stroud. The Ladles were made in London, England 1772 by John Lampfert. Approx. Total Weight - 1430g / 45.98oz Approx. Length - 23.5cm Approx. Width - 11.1cm Approx. Height - 14.2cm Both the Gravy Jugs and the Sauce Ladles are in excellent condition with no damage. Some minor wear to the gilding commensurate with age and use.     A exceptional, fine and impressive pair of antique George III English sterling silver sauce tureens with ladles; an addition to our Georgian silverware collection These exceptional antique George III sterling silver sauce tureens have a plain oval shaped form onto a plain oval spreading pedestal foot to a collet rim. The body of each tureen is encompassed with an applied girdle above a contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms displaying an escutcheon party per pale of a cross engrailed and a lion rampant, encompassed with fabric swaps and suspended tassels. The rim of each antique tureen is encompassed with an applied gadroon decorated border. These impressive sterling silver Georgian tureens retain the original hallmarked push fit covers, surmounted with an impressive reed decorated handle enveloped with chased decorated leaf designs to the terminals. The surface of each cover is ornamented with a contemporary bright cut engraved crest depicting an armoured knight armed mounted on a horse salient holding in his dexter hand a sword above his head. Each tureen is fitted with two loop handles embellished with a chased decorated leaf design to the lower portion. These sauce tureens are presented with Fine and impressive associated London made, antique sterling silver sauce ladles crafted in the Hanoverian Rat Tail pattern by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd in 1939.
